Abstrakt
Avian haemosporidian blood parasites, including species
of Haemoproteus, Plasmodium and Leucocytozoon, are transmitted by
blood-sucking dipteran insect vectors and all three, but most often
Plasmodium spp., are referred to as avian malaria. Diagnosis of infection
may prove complex in tissue samples from dead birds. To overcome
this problem, a chromogenic in-situ hybridization (ISH)
method was established, which facilitates detection of parasites
directly within the tissue.
