Abstrakt

The frequent occurrence of diseases in certain breeds, especially in closely related animals and at young age indicates the likelihood of an underlying genetic disorder. A genetic background has been postulated or at least been proposed for several diseases of the respiratory tract in dogs and cats. Only in a sub-group of these diseases hereditability has been proven and the mode of inheritance been determined. This overview focusses on respiratory diseases of known or suspected hereditability in dogs and cats.
